Human thought and emotion: Jason Fine - Future Thought

I received a promo e-mail from Kontra-Music, letting me know of Jason Fine's new, excellent album, Future Thought. And to my suprise it IS excellent, but what really caught my attention was a part in the info text:
"The dance music producer today can, to categorize, be divided into two types. First we have the producer, and this is the majority - who skillfully manipulate sound to satisfy dance floors and clubs. Then there is the musician - a person who transforms human thought and emotion into music. This is the category that best describes Jason. What comes out of his studio is always something very personal and special. The sounds are old school but the outcome is so much Jason’s own, that if feels very fresh and new."
Exactly so! Guess which ones sell better?

From the album, especially "Amplitude Modulation", with it's raw 909-hihat patterns revolving around the eerie strings and neverending-seeming melody line, reminds me of something old and pure, done in a new and fresh way not forgetting emotion transfer. In this song Jason uses ear splitting resonance sweeps in the strings that send chills down one's heart. Simply beautiful. More from Resident Advisor.

Räntä (a work in progress)

This song is a kind of a B-side track from my latest releases, it has been haunting me for a while, because there are many things I like about it, yet I feel something special is missing that would make it a whole individual with all it's faults (As you might know [and hear], I never like to make songs too perfect, because actually perfection has got little flaws in it that make it interesting and worth pursuing for. That's what it needs: something gritty and a little bit of that good old fashioned "what the fuck is that"-feeling to be approved as ready.)

Mielikutitus EP feedback

Here's some personal feedback from my most recent release "Mielikutitus EP".

CRC (AW Recordings, Curle, Zyntax Motorcity)
Seems like my partner in crime (project WAV) never fails.
Deep, unique and melodical melancholy only aki is capable to pull off with such perfection. I will not go into detail about the tracks, since they all clearly tell their own story, and I´m having trouble to sum up my listening experience by using just words. You have to experience them yourself! Besides all that, the tracks sound technically so brilliant and pleasing to the ear, I think I will use them as a reference when mixing my own stuff.
Mark August (Connaisseur, Curle, Cocoon)
"Loving it man. Playing Merel Linen and Unstable allready.
Very nice work. The groove of Merel Linen is awesome."
Samuli Kemppi (Pakkas-levyt, Frozen North, Ostgut Tonträger, Prologue, Komisch)
Aki writes journey music for the floor. Solid 3 tracker with both depth and perspective. This is modern techno music, not just tracks that you won't even remember next week.
Jussi-Pekka (Frozen North, Poker Flat, Athletikk)
Will play "Unstable And Potentially More Destroying". Great ep in all!
Introvert (Night Vision / TEAM Records)
I think "Merel Linen" is emotional techno at its best. As the name says in finnish, it reminds of the sea with a liquid percussion, wavy rhythmic pads and loose melodic lead. I also like that it sounds more Oulu than Berlin. "Straighforward" is my second pick from this EP that I would play. It reminds me of Donnacha Costello's work a bit but still keeps the original Latvamäki touch. Simple and warm beauty. I really enjoy this ep - maybe not the best Aki's work for me yet but still really strong release that stands out from the masses. Thanks!
If you don't trust these guys (I know I wouldn't), you have the possibility to give a listen to 2/3 of the tracks. One is here and one can be also found from my myspace page. I left my favourite one off, because it seems to be so that people always like the ones I like the least.

Kun Minä Unohduin Ja Se Olitkin Sinä feat. Eini Pesälä

"When I Was Forgotten And It Was You". An emotional encapsulation of time with the help of my friend Eini. We were hanging out and talking about life and the difficult things in life. She had some unwelcome feelings inside of her that we both wanted to get rid of so I fired up my Arp Axxe synth and asked her to play. Knowing that this synth is a hard one play as it seems to have a will of it's own I hooked it up to the mixer and let her at it. It was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard to come out of that particular synth! I quickly hooked up some stereo delays and started making some backup beats, bassline, melody and pads for her to jam with and then recorded her playing into the mix... it was magic. The song is only a loop that I did to back her up and Eini playing the synth, no edits. This is about capturing the moment. Here it is, the moment we had.

It Is Not Now Either (Live video)

I did this photo slideshow video to let people hear how the old It Is Not Now Either can sound in my liveset. The recording is from Helsinki, Hytky's Satiini party from 2008.

The song It Is Not Now Either will be released on Skylax records in 2010. Together with 2 unreleased songs "Super Jumi" and "Mandolin". Mandolin is also on the LWE podcast.

Little White Earbuds, Interview + Podcast

James Cardis aka. James Kartsaklis did this in-depth interview a few months ago. I was really by his questions and things got a bit personal. Which the reader should find illuminating at least. Also there's a podcast included with unreleased and soon-to-be released material. Hope you enjoy it!

Fresh start

This the soon to be blog of Musician Aki Latvamäki aka. Artificial Latvamäki. After disappearance of my previous website, I decided to start a new one here in blogspot. First I will compile and post some of the old links that I can remember. After that, let's see what happens.
